Property Description

Timeless and enriching, Longitude 131° lies at the gateway to the dual World Heritage listed wilderness of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Longitude 131° offers an essential experience of Australia’s spiritual heartland, a true sense of stillness and beauty in the desert landscape, rich in culture, heritage and history. In the spirit of the original pioneers, safari-style tented pavilions are recreated for the modern traveller to float over the rust-red dunes. Unparalleled views of Uluru’s changing lights play out from the end of the bed, or on balconies from the warmth of a cosy swag unfurled in the cool night air. Contemporary furnishings, artworks by local indigenous artists and an array of mod cons dispel any illusion of roughing it.

Central to a stay is discovery of Uluru-Kata Tjuta and connection with the ancient creation stories of the land’s traditional custodians, explored on the Lodge’s personally guided adventures. The Dune House is the heart of Longitude 131° with its panoramic views and cantilevered roof. Enjoy an outback sundowner at the convivial open bar and savour world class cuisine celebrating a fusion of modern and indigenous flavours. Retreat to Spa Kinara for a rejuvenating treatment, relax poolside or absorb the breathtaking setting from the Dune Top, best observed submerged in the plunge pool, glass-in-hand.

ACCOMMODATION

Longitude 131° offers an exceptional Australian luxury outback experience for guests seeking an indulgent short break, the ultimate outback retreat or celebrating a special occasion in a unique and intimate environment.

Nestled among ancient dunes, Longitude 131° is a gathering of sixteen luxury pavilions.

In the spirit of the original pioneers, guests relax after a day’s exploring in a safari-style tent, recreated for the modern traveller as a sanctuary of earthy elegance. Custom-designed furniture from contemporary Australian designers offers stylish lounging, whilst the bespoke ‘Baillie Bed’ dressed in organic linens and luxurious throws holds centre stage. Private floor to ceiling windows yield unparalleled views of Uluru, quite literally at the end of the bed.

The one-of-a-kind the Dune Pavilion is Australia’s only accommodation offering views of both World Heritage-listed Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Architecturally designed as a modern interpretation of the Australian homestead, the Pavilion is considered the star of the luxury camp.

FOOD AND WINE

Longitude 131° offers the best of contemporary Australian cuisine, with an emphasis on simple, quality produce and local flavours to mirror the tranquil, spiritual outback surrounds. The Executive Chef sources the best produce from around Australia – ideally sustainably produced – to create a world-class taste of Australia, to be savoured with a view straight to the nation’s spiritual heart, Uluru.

With a keen interest in utilising the natural ingredients growing around the lodge and used over time in cooking by the Anangu people, the team often gather succulents and berries to combine these very local ‘bush-tucker’ flavours with produce from Australia’s coastal and rural produce regions many kilometres away. Dine and relax in the earth-toned Dune House, the heart of Longitude 131°, with its panoramic views and cantilevered roof. Savour world class cuisine celebrating a fusion of modern and aboriginal flavours at breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the stunning backdrop of Uluru. In the evening, enjoy an outback sundowner at the convivial open bar, swap stories of the day’s adventures and revel in the unique surroundings.

Dining under the stars at Table 131° is a one-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed. As darkness falls, a four-course dinner with matched Australian wines is served in an exclusive outback setting. Later, Longitude’s resident astronomer regales guests with tales of the Southerly constellations. All dining and beverages are included (a select Cellarmasters list is available for additional cost). Private dining can also be arranged on the Dune Top (additional tariff applies). Special dietary requirements or food preferences can be catered for.

EXPERIENCES

At Longitude 131°, guests take the road less traveled, sharing exclusive and authentic Australian outback experiences with just a few others. Together, guests explore the living and cultural landscapes of Uluru and Kata Tjuta on an exceptional Longitude 131° private touring program, designed exclusively for guests and included in the luxury wilderness experience at Longitude 131°.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is located in what has traditionally been the territory of Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara people. The traditional owners of the Park call themselves Anangu or Pitjantjatjara people. Anangu life revolves around the Tjukurpa. Tjukurpa is the word that Anangu use to refer the ancestral time when the world was being formed by heroic beings.

Experience Australia’s heartland in the company of a personal guide and travel in a luxury 4WD on a personal tour or in the company of a select few…

Discover peaceful Mutitjulu Waterhole and the sacred site of Kuniya Piti as the sun lights up the ancient monolith. During the walk, the lodge guide shares the Anangu creation story of Kiniya and Liru, adding greater depth to Uluru’s striking features.

Explore the impressive formation of Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, comprising 36 majestic domes. Walkthrough Walpa Gorge and discover how eons of weathering and continental upheaval have created today’s landscape. Later, visit the Cultural Centre where informative and interactive displays provide insight into the spiritual and cultural meanings of Uluru and Kata Tjuta.

Journey to the base of Uluru and learn the history of the ancestral Mala people. During the Mala Walk, view cave paintings and other relevant sites important to both Anangu and the early explorers. Enter Kantju Gorge at dusk to witness the gorge walls illuminated in the vivid evening light, enjoying sunset drinks and canapés in the silence and solitude.

The mesmerizing and award-winning exhibition, Field of Light Uluru, by critically acclaimed artist Bruce Munro has now been extended until the end of 2020. Under a star-studded outback sky, 50,000 slender stems crowned with frosted-glass spheres will continue to light up the spiritual heart of Australia and guests have the opportunity to walk the field of light as part of their stay.
